Many seniors have to fill out a FAFSA form to enter collage or a university. Preparing for college takes planning and organization. Paying for college for many takes financial aid. So, according to the FAFSA website located at www.fafsa.com “The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the form used”. This simply means that this organization will tell you if you are eligible to get the grants and loans many need throughout college.
Mr.Paredes, SEHS’s college adviser dedicates a lot of his time to inform seniors to fill out the FAFSA application. Mr.Paredes shared a lot of facts about FAFSA.
Q: Who is eligible for the FAFSA?
A: “Anyone who is a citizen or a resident with a green card.”
Q: When is the deadline for the application?
A: “The deadline is March 2nd, if you miss the deadline you could not qualify for free money like Cal Grants but you could qualify for federal loans.”
Q: How long is the FAFSA progress?
A: “It can take 2-3 months for the student to get their first check.”
Q: Is there a difference between filling out the FAFSA in paper or in the internet?
A: Everything is done online.
Q: When do student have to submit a form? Is it every year?
A: “Every year that the student is attending college.”
Q: Why is it necessary to submit a FAFSA?
A: “Because you have to pay tuition, textbooks, supplies, and if far from home a dorm.”
Q: Why do you think some students don’t fill out the FAFSA?
A: “They don’t fill out the FAFSA because families don’t trust the process or student don’t think it is affordable,” said Mr.Paredes.
Q: Do you think students on campus are well informed?
A: “Yes, question is are they even worried about it.”
Q: What do students mostly find hard while filling out this application/
A: “They don’t understand the text formation, can’t cooperate with parents to fill out the application.”
Q: Do a lot of students come for help to you?
A: “Yes, especially when it is near the deadline date.”
